① 土葬安墳;
② 安葬後約七至十年,擇定吉日啟攢,將屍骨整理入金塔;

Treasure #13 Long-standing Lineage, Remembrance of Ancestor
In Hakka genealogical records, the origins of each clan surname, ancestral homeland, migration routes, and lines of inheritance are meticulously documented and passed down through generations. The ancestral hall serves as the vessel that carries these memories, connecting clan members through bloodline, language, relationships, rights, obligations, and roles.
Remembrance of ancestor refers to handling one’s parents’ funerary matters with utmost care, and sincerely remembering ancestors of distant generations. Hakka people place great importance on ancestral worship, burial sites, and geomancy. The process typically includes:
1) Earth burial and the establishment of the grave;
2) After about seven to ten years, selecting an auspicious day to exhume the remains, clean and arrange the bones, and place them into a “urn”;
3) Searching for a suitable burial site to reinter the urn, constructing the tomb, and providing a place for descendants to perform seasonal ancestral rites and remembrance.
The second and third stages often require many years of waiting, and finding an appropriate burial site is especially challenging. In ancient times, frequent migration forced clans to make difficult decisions: should they leave their homeland to escape turmoil, or stay and endure? Choosing to depart meant not only fleeing war, but also carrying the remains of their forebears to a distant land—an emotionally weighty and deeply conflicted decision.
Remembrance of ancestor embodies the core spirit of remembering one’s origins and never forgetting where one comes from.
